Extension Regional Director for Southern Region at Colorado State University
OEE invites applications and nominations for a Extension Regional Director, Southern Region. This is a full-time, twelve (12) month, non-tenure track Extension faculty position. Faculty rank is dependent upon the candidate’s academic credentials and professional experience and is subject to review by the Extension Promotion Committee. The faculty appointment, evaluation, and promotion standards are centered around the three core duties of extension faculty – educate, create, and connect. Candidates are sought with interests that complement and expand upon current initiatives and education activities in OEE and CSU Extension.
The Regional Director provides leadership for personnel, budgets, programming, and relationship building within the region they are assigned. The person in this position works as a liaison between Extension staff, county partners, Extension offices, OEE administration, colleges, specialists, and programs to ensure that resources are in place to support non-credit educational programming that is valued and meets county/regional interests, support staff growth and retention, and support a positive and equitable work environment for all employees. The Regional Director works as part of a Field Extension Administrative Team that makes recommendations on staffing priorities, organizational budget, policies, and procedures to the Executive Leadership team to support Extension operations statewide.
The Regional Director provides leadership, guidance, direction, and coordination in the administration of personnel, programming, budgets and relationships for CSU Extension staff and offices in their assigned region. Developing initiatives and priorities across programs and regions that connect to the CSU Engagement Collaboratives is a core responsibility of the Regional Director. They refine and clarify operational procedures and develop implementation action plans. They also foster the development of an inclusive organizational culture through team building, coaching, mentoring, conflict resolution, and providing the necessary resources and support. The Regional Director collectively identifies strategies to guide CSU Extension’s work to address the organization’s mission and values.
The person in the Regional Director position reports to the Extension Field Director. The primary office location for this position is in Pueblo, Colorado. While this position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, the individual in this position is expected to maintain a balance establishing a presence in the primary office, to effectively carry out the duties of the position. The work schedule will vary, and occasional night and weekend work will be necessary.
This Regional Director directly supervises a combination of County/Area Directors and Specialists, as well as regional specialists, and an administrative assistant.
Qualifications
Completed master’s degree. Conferred degree may be in a variety of disciplines, including business, community development, Extension education, youth development, agricultural sciences, social sciences, family and consumer sciences, public health or related degree that can significantly contribute to administrative and/or program responsibilities.
Minimum of ten years of professional experience in office and/or program administration and management, specifically demonstrating a significant level of leadership, problem solving, and relationship building skills.
Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.
The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date; Extension will not sponsor a visa for this position.

Preferred Job Qualifications
Substantial knowledge and experience with Extension and the land-grant university system.
Demonstrated skill in personnel administration. Some elements include motivating employees, developing job descriptions, employee hiring, supervision and evaluation, orientation and training, problem solving, conflict management, counseling, coaching, professional development, developing improvement plans and providing the necessary follow-up, and supporting positive work environments.
Demonstrated administrative experience or capacity. Common elements include developing positive working relationships internally and externally, developing and consistently implementing processes, policies, and procedures, connecting resources and people to accomplish tasks, coordinating teams, and providing leadership for organizational efforts, and providing effective follow-up.
Demonstrated experience or capacity in budget development and management and resource generation (grants, contracts, partnership agreements, user fees, etc.).
Ability to communicate as demonstrated through application materials and experience in public speaking/presentation and writing skills and/or working as part of a group or team.
Demonstrated experience forming equitable partnerships with county and state partners, other professionals, and organizations to accomplish goals.
Ability to recognize opportunities and generate buy-in to guide organizational change and support opportunities for Extension and communities.
Experience in the development, delivery, and evaluation of Extension educational programs; appreciation for program reporting.
Dedicated commitment to CSU’s Principles of Community. Evidence may include experience in working with all audiences and their accessibility needs.
