Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Integrated Assessment Modeling at University of Wisconsin-Madison
The Global Change Research Laboratory (GCRL) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is seeking a talented and motivated Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join our dynamic and innovative team. Our laboratory focuses on the complex interactions between climate change, terrestrial ecosystems, and human societies. We use cutting-edge research tools, including process-based and empirical Earth system models, remote sensing data, field data, and integrated assessment models to address critical questions in global change science. Position Overview: The successful candidate will contribute to a project that investigates how carbon pricing policies and national dietary trends, particularly the shift toward plant-based diets, impact dairy production and sustainability. The research will utilize the GCAM integrated assessment model, which enables scenario-based analysis of interactions among energy, land, water, and the economy.
Start Date: Flexible, with the earliest start available immediately.
Key Responsibilities: Design and implement policy and dietary change scenarios using GCAM; Conduct integrated modeling analyses and interpret results related to the dairy industry’s economic and environmental outcomes; Collaborate with faculty, GCAM developers, and stakeholders; Prepare peer-reviewed publications and present findings at national and international conferences.
Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in environmental sciences, geography, economics, public policy, engineering, or a related field (by start date); Strong background in integrated assessment modeling, climate policy analysis, or systems modeling; Proficiency in data science and programming tools (e.g., R); Demonstrated ability to publish in peer-reviewed journals; Excellent communication in spoken and written English and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with GCAM or other IAMs; Familiarity with agricultural or energy policy; Knowledge of sustainable food systems or behavioral economics.
The position will be renewed annually, contingent on performance. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
