Senior Economic Analyst at Natural Resource Governance Institute (UK, Mexico, or Colombia)
The Senior Economic Analysts position will provide senior level research, technical assistance, capacity development and advocacy support related to implementation of the two goals of NRGI’s organizational strategy 2025-2030
Goal 1: Transform the governance of minerals, particularly those needed for the energy transition.
Goal 2: Transform the governance of fossil fuels and advance economic and energy systems beyond oil and gas.
This role will be focused in the near term on Goal 2, with a particular focus on transitioning beyond oil and gas.
The Analyst will provide rigorous quantitative analysis and strategic insights on global energy markets, specifically focusing on transitions away from oil and gas dependency towards sustainable and equitable economic and energy systems, and with a special initial focus on national oil companies. The Analyst will collaborate closely with NRGI country teams in Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Ghana, Senegal, Nigeria, and potentially other countries, contributing to and supporting country-specific analyses and ensuring integration of country perspectives into broader cross-country analytical frameworks.
Senior Economic Analysts provide thought leadership to the organization and the wider community of NRGI’s stakeholders and ensure that NRGI’s economic program activities are demand-driven, cutting-edge and targeted for maximum impact. S/he also contributes to the strategic direction of the organization, participating in discussions about priorities and challenges that will shape NRGI’s global work.

Experience & Technical Skills Required
Minimum 7 years of professional experience in the development sector, public sector, international NGOs, or related fields.
At least 3 years' experience working on at least one of the following fields: taxation, public financial management, state owned enterprise management, or energy transition.
Profound understanding of natural resource governance sector and energy transition issues.
Excellent quantitative analysis skills, including experience developing complex models, synthesizing data sets from multiple sources, and guiding strategic analysis and interpretation.
Strong knowledge of and proven expertise in analyzing global energy markets, with preference for expertise in energy system modelling, particularly regarding the intersections between fiscal policies and energy transitions.
Demonstrated record of publishing academic research or policy-oriented analysis in fields relevant for this position, with preference for experience with research specifically on National Oil Companies, economic diversification, industry transformations, business transitions, energy security and/or climate and transition finance.
Experience conducting comprehensive policy analysis using both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies.
Extensive experience in international research collaborations, working effectively with multicultural teams, and engaging stakeholders in emerging market economies, including CSOs and governments.
Proficiency in quantitative analysis tools such as R.
Experience providing pragmatic technical assistance on complex policy or business issues to decision-makers. Ability to design and deliver trainings and other capacity development interventions to a diverse range of stakeholders.
Significant experience working internationally, including in the developing world.
Ability to think conceptually and strategically within a 3–5-year horizon.
Experience managing and allocating resources efficiently.
Having the gravitas, credibility and ability to initiate and develop strategic relationships and influence key stakeholders at a regional / international level.
Excellent English language skills, both written and spoken are required; professional proficiency in Spanish, with demonstrated ability to draft technical reports and deliver compelling presentations preferred.
Education & Qualifications
Graduate level degree (minimum Masters or equivalent required) in economics required. Earlier / additional degree in relevant field (e.g., economics, public policy, finance, law, international affairs, or engineering) preferred.

Colombia: $51,341 gross per annum
Mexico: $58,081 gross per annum
United Kingdom: £59,916 gross per annum
