Tobin Pre-Doctoral Fellowship at Yale University
This is a full-time research assistant position under the supervision of Victoria Marone and Cody Cook, both of the Yale Dept. of Economics.
The hired researcher will support projects in health, public, and urban economics that use tools from empirical industrial organization. They will be engaged in all stages of the research process, including conceptual development, background data collection and information gathering, data analysis, and writing. Examples of potential projects include:
Evaluating policies moderating the interaction between private health insurance markets and a universal public health insurance system
Evaluating policies affecting the labor supply decisions of healthcare providers across private versus public employers/payers
Evaluating who benefits (and how) from different congestion pricing policies
The design of mechanisms used to allocate affordable housing units to low-income households
Specific tasks will include conducting literature reviews, providing investigative background research using public sources, analyzing large proprietary datasets (including health insurance claims data), and assisting with model estimation. The hired researcher will meet regularly with faculty to discuss progress. The fellow will also receive dedicated research training and career development skills with their Tobin pre-doctoral fellow cohort. This position is intended to provide training to prepare a candidate for doctoral studies in Economics. We encourage our fellow to take classes while they are at Yale and participate in various economics seminars happening across campus. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong excitement to learn and engage with the research process.
Requisite Skills and Qualifications:
Candidates should have a long-term interest in pursuing economics-related research and be completing or have completed a Bachelor's or Master’s degree.
The candidate must have excellent organizational skills and a strong background in using Stata or more general-purpose programming languages (e.g., Python, Julia, R).
A background in economics is a plus, but not required; candidates with strong technical skills who are interested in learning more about economics are encouraged to apply.
